When it comes to content marketing, many get intimidated (and even overwhelmed) by the idea of creating content.

Writing a constant stream of new, exciting things people actually want to read isn’t easy. -- Trust me, I know.

Fortunately, however, in recent years, marketers both young and old have found comfort in the warm embrace of content curation.

“Mobile web browsing overtakes desktop for the first time!”

Two years ago that headline was plastered across some of the most popular blogs in the industry. Today, we’re still in the midst of the mobile revolution and it shows no signs of slowing down.

For the first time ever mobile browsing has begun to lead the way we design for desktops.

With adults expected to spend an average of 3 hours and 23 minutes on voice mobile media, it’s no surprise to see the features we use every day making their way over to their stationary counterparts on desktop.

To kick off 2018, I took a giant leap and accepted a fully remote position in a role I’d essentially never done before (not in any official capacity, anyway).

I would soon be the Director of Audience Engagement and Community at IMPACT. As someone who had always had the word “marketing” in my title in some way, this was a big shift.

As I packed up my desk at my old job, I got a little scared.

Sure, it was exciting to think about working from home (I’d never have to wear pants again, right?) and to join this team of people I already loved, but what if working there was dramatically different than meeting up with the team at conferences and chatting on Facebook?

It's no secret that Brie, Britt, and I are in newer leadership roles. In fact, we are slowly closing in on one year of being in these positions.

Trust us when we say it hasn't come without its challenges.

It's beneficial to talk about challenges with friends or family. It's theraputic, and you often leave those conversations with a new perspective.

But, what if you don't have people in your professional life to bounce ideas of off and talk about the struggles you're facing?

Do you sometimes feel alone?

If you're in the market for a new eCommerce website, the first thing you need to decide is whether you'll use a premade or a custom solution.

Out-of-the-box eCommerce solutions such as Shopify and WooCommerce have a number of advantages, but they don't fit the needs of every company.

Although they require a larger time investment, custom eCommerce websites return in the form of greater control, flexibility, and scalability.

So, you’re not seeing the results you want from your team.

You’re baby-stepping. You’re doing the work -- but your team isn’t developing, moving the ball forward, or doing great work and moving it into the done column. You and your team aren’t having fun anymore...

Your team is missing revenue goals. Team velocity is stagnant at best. For some reason, your team can’t break through and deliver the outcomes necessary to fulfill their purpose.

The truth is -- It may not be them.

Site search has traditionally been ignored by marketers and relegated to IT departments.

While modern CMS solutions have made it easy for non-technical marketers to build and maintain them, the search feature still lives in the realm of IT or web development and is often ignored by everyone except one important group: your website visitors.

The dangers of reckless email marketing are real, people.

From unsubscriptions to being marked as spam, having a slapdash approach to email production and strategy is likely to catch up to your brand quickly if it hasn’t already.

Over 54% of companies have six or more emails in production at one time, with 31% having less than half of a week of work going into each one. With so many balls in the air at once, it’s important to have a tried and true process for getting emails planned, written, and out the door in a timely manner.

I admit it. I have major designer envy.

I know some Photoshop. I have a decent eye, but I’ve always wished I could have even half the effortless visual artistry that designers on our team have.

In inbound marketing, design and content are a dynamic duo. Without one, the other falls short, and unfortunately, this creates quite a dilemma for non-designing Marketers (and non-writing designers) everywhere.

Say Whaaat?!?

As a marketer, working with a designer should be a great experience, but worried you don’t speak the “design”? That’s okay. Although a good designer should be able to communicate with their team without using a whole lot of industry terms, it’s not hard to learn the lingo.

When it comes to graphic or web design, the terminology is the same across the board so don’t worry, you won’t have a lot to remember.

I wasn’t always in Sales.

I graduated college with a degree in Graphic Design and Presentation and minored in Art. My first real job out of college was working as a production associate at a local sign shop, assisting with digital design and installation of signage.

Fortunately for me, the next step in my career was joining Bob in the early days of IMPACT, continuing the execution of creative work.

As we grew our client base, I got a taste of what it meant to be in direct connection with the client.

We've all been there before.

At some point in time in our careers, we've dealt with negativity. Whether it be the gossip mill, co-workers complaining, or having a boss who is downright unbearable, we've experienced it.

But, have you ever felt just because you weren't in management, you had no power to make a change in the environment you work in? To affect a more positive atmosphere and culture?

In this week's episode, we discuss these very things and how you might be able to affect change.

As many of us know, it can be an incredible challenge to create a website with wonderful content that can generate leads and attract qualified traffic, but, once you do, it's extremely gratifying to see all that hard work finally paying off.

Unfortunately, there are many out there who may decide to use that success to their advantage… We’re not talking “imitation is the highest form of flattery,” I mean they may straight copy your content, design, or worse, your entire site.

Back in early December, Jessie-Lee cruelly abandoned Marcella and myself, and we were left to our own devices to record our 51st episode -- Are Undermining Words a Crime?

Posted: January 23, 2018, 4:31 pm

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Okay, just kidding. Approximately four years ago, when I was first officially exposed to the inbound methodology as a marketer, a light bulb went off in the darkest corners of my cobweb-ridden, caffeine-addled brain.

"Holy cannoli, they're right," I thought to myself, as I made my way through HubSpot's inbound certification for the very first time.

"The way I'm buying has changed. If I could have gone through the entire sales process of buying my most recent car without talking to a salesperson -- from research to sign-off on the dotted line -- I would have. I want more. More information, more insights, more actionable data, more answers at my fingertips, on-demand. And so do my buyers."

Inbound is all about putting your audience first no matter what stage of the journey they are in.
